(for both the love story and wedding)
Thanks so much for loving Nikolaj and Ciara’s story.
This is the only book that I’ve written without a plot. The story just flowed. It was just coming at me even when I wasn’t sitting in front of my laptop. That said, I did have to change my strategy for the wedding book because there were so many characters and I wanted to make sure that I kept track of them all.
It’s no secret that Nikolaj is my dream guy. Even without his billions, I’d take him in a heartbeat.
Everything about him oozes masculinity and since we all know that I’m a sucker for a tall, elegant guy with blue eyes, you can see why I fell hard for Nikolaj the second I started writing this story. Of course, I can only imagine what it’s really like to have a guy talk-dirty to you with a British accent.
Trust me, that one is definitely on the bucket list 😉
Originally, Nikolaj was supposed to be a hockey player but when I decided to make him older, I realized that it didn’t make sense because professional hockey players have a “shelf-life career”. After a certain point, they have to retire simply because they sustain so many injuries during the time they’re on the ice.
That’s when I made the switch. Something in my head screamed Brit, but I didn’t envision him as a British guy. With my obsession with Game of Thrones, I thought of a Nordic alpha who was well-travelled and who grew up away from his homeland.
I knew Nikolaj would be a billionaire, but I wanted to give him an original company and since he’s European, I figured euro-football would be a really good starting point. I brought the game to the digital age and that was how I came up with his gaming company.
I think it’s safe to say that aunt Carmelita, from the wedding book, might be the character who has the most presence in a book, yet we never hear from her—other than her chants of excitement. It was a trip writing her because I feel that everyone has one of these type of flamboyant and over-the-top relatives in their family. I also think that weddings bring out the crazy people and it was quite reflected via aunt Carmelita’s character.
I’ve collected below some of the images that have inspired me in my writing. I had not done this for the first part of the series, but I definitely did keep track for the wedding book.
I hope you enjoy this. If you do, don’t forget to drop me a line. I always appreciate hearing from you.
Let’s Start From The Beginning!
This is the image that sparked the idea for Ciara’s character.
I’m knew on the outside Ciara would be the strong and super-confident type, but also I’ll wanted to give her this heavy internal turmoil that no one other than people who were close to her knew she was wrestling with. She had become this man-eater to avoid ever being hurt and humiliated. Luke had changed her and that’s how she coped with the pain.
Sometimes you see people and on the outside everything about them looks perfect, but on the inside it’s not. That’s Ciara.
When I saw the photo below while writing Sofia’s story, I know this would be Ciara.

Here are the Christian Louboutin high-heel shoes that enticed billionaire Nikolaj to approach Ciara!

Aaron Diaz is my muse for Nikolaj. Of course, I gave my alpha blue eyes. When I first saw the following photo, I didn’t know who the hottie was. It was a solid 8 to 9 months after I had published the series that I found out his name and the fact that he’s a Mexican actor, singer, and model.
I really love the photo below because there’s something so feral about that intense look in his eyes—very Nikolaj!

I don’t know who she is, but she became my muse for Ciara!
Everything about her screams incredibly sexy and outrageously confident. Don’t get me started on all that beautiful hair. And since Ciara is half Spaniard and half Latina, I felt this girl was perfect!

Ciara’s wardrobe
You won’t believe the number of readers who sent me private messages and emails letting me know how much they envied Ciara’s wardrobe.
Trust me, I’m right there with you. I love her style and I love how she’s able to rock super-high heels.
Personally, I know that I would most likely injure myself if I were to even consider walking in anything that high. Pass 2 ½ inches, I become a danger to myself and to society 😉
That said, I bow to women who can rock 4, 5 or even 6 inch stilettos!
For Ciara’s wardrobe, I used a lot of styles I’ve been collecting on Pinterest!
In fact, Pinterest is my go-to place for the wardrobe of all my characters—male and female!
Truth be told, I’m an obsessed Pinterest user 😉 LOVE IT!
Here are a few styles Ciara would rock!
This is the inspiration for the red dress Ciara wore for her mother’s wedding party—the one that Nikolaj couldn’t resist 😉

These are the shoes she wears on her way back to Paris after spending a few days in Germany. If you remember, it’s the scene where her fiancé is waiting for her in the outdoor shower.

Criminally Chic
The name came well before I found the muse.
Ciara’s name stuck after I had discovered hip-hop and R&B singer Ciara Princess Harris.

Although my Ciara isn’t a black beauty (and yes there are loads of super hot and sexy Blatinas/Black Latinas out there, but my Ciara has a fairer complexion than Ciara the singer given that she’s half Latina and half Spaniard – Diego’s Dad was black, but his mom was white), everything about the two women is at the same volcanic level and they are equally stunning.
I remember discovering Ciara, the singer, on a Sunday afternoon. That night, I sat in front of my laptop and watched every single one of her music videos.
I’ll be honest, after hours of watching those videos, I think I developed a girl crush on the singer 😉
I couldn’t believe how sultry she looked and I was floored by the sensual way she moved her body. Her dancing skills are jaw-dropping. Once, I did some research and found out that she was 5’10 inches tall; I was floored. I never imagined that someone with that kind of stature could crush it with those dance moves.
Here she is in all her glory!
This video with Justin Timberlake is sick!!!
The proposal!
I wanted Nikolaj to propose in Paris. It just had to be. If you’ve been following me or if you’ve read my books, you know how much I LOVE that city. It’s not only because I have cousins living there, it’s because there is no other city like it in the world. I know some people try to peg Buenos Aires, Mexico City and Prague as the little Paris, but I’m sorry, Paris is Paris. Just like New York. No matter how many times some people living in Toronto compare the two cities, they are worlds apart. New York is New York. End of story.

Here’s a cool video showing you why Paris is the MOST visited city in the world:
Since Le Pont des Arts is one of my favourite historical landmarks in the city, it was just the perfect location. I call this bridge, le pont des amoureux/The Love Bridge because of the powerful meaning behind every single one of the locks.
Here’s a link to read more about the significance of that bridge in Paris: Pont des Arts

Le Musée du Louvre is another one of my fave spots in Paris, enhance why Nikolaj asks Jerome to park not from from it so he’s forced to cross it to access Le Pont des Arts.

If you’ve never been to le Musée du Louvre in Paris it’s enchanting. I mean it was built on August 10, 1793. Yup! Leave it the French and their love of art to have created a shrine that long ago.
Here’s a layout:

Getting To The Wedding!
I’m sure you’ve seen these elegant and grandiose Paris apartments in the movies. The thing is they are only located in the best arrondissements (neighborhoods) in the city. They’re often passed on from generation to generation, and you guessed it, they cost a fortune.
Of course any Paris apartment—no matter the price—is a drop in the bucket for Nikolaj.
Here are a few shots from a Paris apartment located in busy swanky 16th arrondissement that inspired me for Nikolaj’s “humble abode”.

As we find out in the story, Ciara and Nikolaj also bought a brand-new townhouse in New York City.
Here are a couple of my dream homes were I ever able to afford one in the City That Never Sleeps.

When this photo landed in my Pinterest feed, I could only think of one person—Ciara.

The same applies for this one below. I think the second one is definitely New York City, while the one above could easily be Paris.

The Billionaire Wedding!
I also found this on Pinterest. I think it reflects a lot how Sofia feels about her baby sister finally getting married—especially after the drama that took place with her soon to be in-laws on the eve of her big day.

This is the outfit Ciara wore at the family dinner

The hairstyle I selected for Ciara’s wedding day

Ciara’s wedding dress. I saw this dress and I fell in love with it on the spot. I thought it was pretty, elegant, chic and glamorous without being over the top—very Ciara

This is a photo that really inspired me during the time I was writing the wedding scenes

Here’s another

I love everything about the photo below and I think it’s very Ciara + Nikolaj <3

It would be incredibly wrong if I didn’t add a little raunchy—after all, we are talking about Ciara and Nikolaj 😉

Although the dress Ciara wore after her wedding is white, the red one below is the inspiration for it. The only difference is I chopped it at the knee so it’s short enough to allow her enough room to maneuver on the dance floor.

The Playlist!
Here are many of the songs that made it in the book and some that didn’t, but that still inspired me.
Usher – Yeah! ft. Lil Jon, Ludacris
This is the song on the first night when Nik and Ciara meet. This is the song that brought Nikolaj to his knees! Damn, I LOVE this song!
Montel – Get It On Tonite
This is another tune that play while Nik and Ciara where on the dance floor.
John Legend – All of Me
Strangely enough, I don’t like John Legend. This song broke me in. I couldn’t stop listening to it, so it had to become Ciara’s fave love song and the song Nikolaj proposes to on Le Pont Des Arts in Paris!
Songs from Wedding book
Annie Lennox – I Put A Spell On You
This is the song Nikolaj used to seduce Ciara at the beginning of the wedding book
Selena Gomez – Good For You
This is the song Ciara sings in the wedding book in the rented car when they return to Toronto
Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud
The song Ciara selected for their first dance. Although she left the decision to Nik to select their first dance since she lost another sex bet, he asked Sofia so he could give the love of his life what she wanted
Sam Smith – Like I Can
This song made it to Ciara’s Top 5 List for her first dance.
Sam Smith – Stay With Me
This song also made it to Ciara’s Top 5 List for her first dance.
Sam Smith – Lay Me Down
One of her final 5 for their first dance. Nikolaj plays in to great her when he comes back from Copenhagen after his little visit back home to ask his Mom to back off
La India & Marc Anthony / Vivir Lo Nuestro
This is one of the best Salsa duos, in my opinion, which is why it had to be part of Nik’s and Ciara’s wedding (Yes, the video is a bit dated, but in my opinion, La India and Marc have some of the best voices in salsa music.
MORE!
The following songs where great inspirations as well even if they didn’t make it in the wedding book
Santiago Cruz – y si te quedas, que?
Beyoncé – Haunted (From the ”Fifty Shades of Grey”)
Beyoncé – Crazy in Love (From the ”Fifty Shades of Grey”)
Jess Glynne’s acoustic version of My Love
Enrique Iglesias – Bailando (Español) ft. Descemer Bueno, Gente De Zona
God, have I listened to this song. I think I must have played it 5,000 times!
Nicky Jam y Enrique Iglesias – El Perdón
Here’s another one from Enrique that I also LOVE!
The Chateau
My inspiration for the Chateau is the same one from Nikki Yanofsky – Necessary Evil’s video. I was spinning when this video came up and I was like, “this is the chateau”
Nikki Yanofsky – Necessary Evil
